In Pakistan, kids grow and study hard to increase their grades to get into college and then study hard to get into university and then again improve grades and get a degree to find a job. But when they go out in the workplace they have come to know that the environment in workplaces is different then in university. Some get jobs, however, many others don’t find any job and get depressed.

In Pakistan, the rate of unemployment has been increased from 0.76 percent to 8.54 percent between 1999 and 2020.

Question is what are the factors that result in the failure of students in workplaces?

There are many reasons for the unemployment in Pakistan and some of it I am going to discuss here one by one:

1. What Students Lack

There are many reasons for unemployment in Pakistan. One of the important reasons for unemployment in Pakistan is the lack of skills. Students who graduate from universities have little or no skill at all. They have a kind of bookish knowledge that only helps to pass the exams but not in real life. In the workplace only few have proper skills and knowledge about how to earn money or get a job. Not having skills is one of the leading causes of unemployment in Pakistan.

Many students lack communication skills. They are afraid of making big decisions and to collaborate with other people. When they don’t know how to meet people and express their feelings and opinions they left behind. Universities do not teach them how to develop communication skills.

In workplaces, companies want people who have motivation and always want to learn new things. Students, when graduated, already wasted lots of their time in the things that won’t be needed in workplaces. They lack motivation and courage. Instead of looking for new opportunities, they waste time in memorizing lots of stuff that is only helpful in exams but not in real life.

Students lack focus and consistency. They are distracted by so many things. They cannot focus on one thing and be consistent. They are always distracted by their environment. They always get different advice from their parents and other elder people in the family. They remain confused on choosing the right career.

2. Role of Universities

In Pakistan universities are not playing a significant role in the career development of young minds. Many students when graduated from university, do not have proper knowledge or skill to do anything in life. Therefore, after graduation they have to start learning new skills from starting and in this way, many young people suffer.

However, when they go to the field, they will come to know that real life is so much more difficult than what they have been taught in schools and universities. For the entire life their mindset has been trained to believe in certain things only. They are never encourage to do something new in life or make new decisions.

When students graduate from university they want to get a job as early as possible. Due to this, those who find a job and spend some time with a company, and the company get to know that this man is not suitable for this job, so they remove the person and hire a new one. In this way many people who don’t have proper knowledge and skills have lost their jobs and the rate of unemployed has increased.

Many universities in Pakistan do not have good management. Due to their mismanagement, a lot of time has been wasted and students have been suffering. Many private universities are taking too much fees from students and in return they don’t give useful skills to students. These kinds of universities have been making people that are successful only in exams but failed in real life.

Effect of technology on Job market

As you know due to the advancements in technology many jobs nowadays have been replaced by new ones. Every year, many jobs have been created and many existing jobs have been destroyed.

The developed countries have managed their job market so that new jobs have continued to be available for the upcoming people.

However developing countries like Pakistan, have not been able to give its large populations new jobs every year. This is why many fresh graduates have been suffering and won’t be able to find jobs and earn money.

One more factor for the increase in unemployment rate is that as old and traditional jobs have been removed and new have been created. So the available jobs are the same as it was before but the difference is that people are unaware of the new emerging jobs and rely on the traditional method of earning which results in the increase in unemployment rate.

In countries like Pakistan many people do not accept the new digital revolution. They don’t admit that they can earn online on the internet and by remote working. Whether we admit it or not, it’s the digital age. To be successful it is necessary to learn relevant skills according to the market trend.

Solutions

Although, due to many factors unemployed has been increasing in Pakistan for years. Young students can make good progress in their fields and become financially independent. In university time, students can master their skills and learn how to collaborate with different people. They can Develop communication skills that will help them in the workplace. Companies often hire fresh graduates who have good skills and are always motivated to learn new things.

When they have free time they can learn more skills online and earn money as a passive income. In this way they know how to make money even if they are still students or fresh graduates.

To be successful in your career find a mentor. A mentor that always guides you in difficult situations. If you are applying for a job drop and follow up your CV, contact people that you know in a workplace and you ask them for help then you have a chance to be hired.
